This unique apartment is located within the historic Hawarden Castle, once home to British Prime Minister William Gladstone. With luxurious interiors, views overlooking the ruins of a 13th century castle and its own woodland garden with a wood-fired hot tub, The West End offers a memorable escape for families or groups of friends. Spend your days exploring the estate's woods, parkland and lake or head out to discover the charm of North Wales with its stunning beaches, historic sites and market towns. Relax back at the apartment with a session in the sauna or enjoy a cosy evening listening to records in front of the fire.
Head along the estate's drive, through iron gates and you'll be greeted by the grand turrets and ramparts of the 18th century Hawarden Castle. The apartment itself is located on the first and second floors of the castle, offering beautiful views over the estate and the ruins of a 13th century Marcher castle. The West Room is the social hub of the apartment, set up with a cosy sitting area and a dining space where you can all gather in the evenings to enjoy a meal together. The well-equipped kitchen is next door where you can rustle up delicious dinners with produce from the estate's award-winning Farm Shop.
There are five bedrooms to choose from, two double rooms on the first floor and a twin and two more doubles upstairs. They're all thoughtfully furnished with a mix of modern and period features, giving each room its own character. In one room, a luxurious double bed is set in front of an enormous period painting while bright, contemporary pieces decorate the walls of the twin room. There are four bathrooms across the two floors, equipped with rainfall showers and roll top baths, the perfect spot to unwind after a day exploring. There's also a private sauna located on the ground floor by the apartment's entrance for that extra bit of relaxation.
Outside, the apartment has its own woodland garden area with a wood-fired hot tub which is a lovely place to sit back and soak up the peaceful surroundings. There's also a custom-built firepit for toasting marshmallows on long summer evenings and a Green Egg BBQ. You'll find hampers for BBQs, indulgent cooked breakfasts and smores available in the Farm Shop.
There's plenty to do on the estate itself from swimming in the lake to relaxing in the wood-fired sauna. You can book yourselves in for guided foraging and wilderness walks, enjoy a private yoga session or even abseil down the walls of the old castle. If you fancy venturing a little further afield, this area of North Wales is rich in history and natural beauty. Explore the medieval ruins of the nearby Flint Castle with its breathtaking views over the Dee Estuary or head to the coast for a scenic walk along Talacre Beach with its famous lighthouse. You can go kayaking along the River Dee or try mountain biking in Coed Llandegla Forest. Or simply enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings from the comfort of your hot tub back at Hawarden Castle.
