Nestled in the Yorkshire Dales with stunning views over the White Horse of Kilburn, Rufus’ Roost is a truly charming hideaway. Built amidst the forest of a Medieval manor, it’s in a spectacular location. With top-draw eco-credentials, the owners ensure that the treehouse has minimal impact on the environment around it - hardly surprising considering the family have been preserving this area for five generations. Their hard work shows in the abundance of wildlife in the local surroundings. Add to this amazing interiors, a private hot tub and a large terrace and you know you are onto something very special indeed.
A fabulous boardwalk zig zags through the forest to deliver you to Rufus’ Roost’s front door. The build itself is spellbinding, with feature windows and turrets to boot - it definitely has a touch of the fairytale about it. Once inside, you’ll be welcomed by an open-plan lounge, kitchen and dining area. With character by the bucket-load, you can’t help but be impressed by the double height ceiling, modern wood burning stove and exceptional staircase (complete with a bannister constructed solely from branches). The kitchen is well-equipped and gleamingly modern with breathtaking views over the Yorkshire countryside.
There are three double bedrooms on offer, two of which are located on the ground floor and one up on the mezzanine level. All promise a great night’s sleep, with thick duvets and blankets to cosy down under. The bespoke chunky bunk beds are great - and add that special sense of adventure for any little ones.
The magic continues out on the large terrace - the perfect spot for some al-fresco dining. With a log-fired pizza oven, there’s plenty of opportunity to flex your outdoor cooking prowess. And the state-of-the-art air source heat pump hot tub is ideal for a relaxing evening soak as you watch the sun go down over the spectacular view.
Children are well catered for with a whole forest to explore, trees to climb and a stream to play in. And on a more practical level, the thoughtful owners have gone the extra mile, providing a travel cot, highchair, sterilising equipment, and a milk and food warmer for the tiniest of explorers.
Once settled in your new forest surroundings, you are actively encouraged to explore - there are even binoculars and a bat monitoring station to help aid your wildlife spotting. Once you’re done discovering, there’s a fabulous indoor den to delve into. Accessed by a slide (naturally), there’s more entertainment in this room than you can shake a whittled stick at! With bean bags, cushions, TV, games console, movies and a popcorn machine. It’s such a great room, you’ll almost be wishing for rain.
The local area has lots to explore too. Although it feels like you’re in the middle of nowhere, you are in fact just a few miles from the market towns of Thirsk and Easingwold. And if you fancy travelling a little further, you’re only 17 miles from York with its remarkable gothic cathedral, winding Medieval streets and bustling cafes. The charming local pub, the Plum and Partridge, is well worth a visit and offers guests staying at Rufus' Roost a 10% discount!
