Nestled amidst the rolling hills and olive groves of Puglia, this 18th century farmhouse has been beautifully transformed into a unique hotel. Lama di Luna is surrounded by over 500 acres of organically cultivated vineyards and orchards, immersing its guests in the beautiful Italian countryside. The original charm of the building has been preserved, reusing the original materials to create a traditional, yet luxurious atmosphere.
The hotel’s rooms and suites were once the farmers’ residences and have been transformed into luxurious spaces, designed with the principles of feng shui in mind. Each room feels bright and spacious with the natural materials used for the furnishings complementing the warm tones of the exposed stone walls. Natural latex mattresses and crisp cotton sheets promise a restful night’s sleep and you’ll find olive-oil soap in the bathrooms.
Guests are invited to eat at the restaurant which is set out on the veranda during the summer months and in the dining room with a fireplace to keep you warm during the cooler seasons. The menu focuses on traditional, local cuisine using the hotel’s own organic produce, emphasising the flavours of the region.
There’s a large outdoor pool surrounded by 600-year-old olive trees and with views out over the beautiful countryside. If you fancy a moment of peace and quiet, you’ll find a serene library stocked with thousands of books, some dating back to the 1500s. This is a cosy spot to snuggle up in the winter with a fire going to keep you warm. Get a glimpse of the local film culture by spending an evening in the cinema where Italian art films are shown every evening or book yourself in for a tasting of the local olive oil or wine.
Venture a little further into the Puglian countryside and you’ll find yourself in the stunning Alta Murgia National Park. Just a few kilometres from the farm, visit the striking Castel del Monte, a 13th century citadel with wonderful views across the region. Get lost in the historic streets of towns like Minervino, Molfetta and Andria or head down to the coast to visit the beautiful port and cathedral in Trani.
