This gorgeous romantic getaway is part of Mill Cross Retreats, a tranquil haven close to Dartmoor and the sea. It would be the perfect choice for couples seeking the solace of nature with a good dose of romance thrown in.
On arrival you'll find a gorgeous blue hut, just for you, in its own little part of the retreat. The owners have thoughtfully designed a separate, luxurious hut with a toilet and shower right next door, so you won't have to squeeze yourself into a tiny cubicle in the main living area.
Inside you'll find a delightful space with a hand-built, well-equipped kitchen area at one end. There's a small retro fridge to keep your bubbly chilled and the hosts provide a rather lovely welcoming pack that includes homemade organic sourdough, butter and fizz, as well as some other delights which will make you feel right at home the moment you drop your bags.
The centre of the hut has a comfy sofa facing glass patio doors, where you can sit by the Hobbit wood burner with a cup of tea and watch the chickens come and go. The décor is eclectic and homely with lovely personal touches, from framed pictures and pot plants to colourful tiles above the sink.
The other end of the hut contains a big cosy double bed next to a window where you can cuddle up under the Devon wool duvet, rest your head on the feather and down pillows and sleep to the sounds of nature.
In the morning you might like to help yourself to the complimentary Grumpy Mule Organic coffee, take a seat outside on the wooden steps or in the patio area and enjoy the early morning sun on your face as you take in the view of the garden and trees.
When it's time to start the day, you can head into your private, beautiful shower hut which is well insulated and heated with a large sink, spacious walk-in shower and toilet. The hosts provide complimentary fluffy towels and 'Beautiful Faith In Nature' toiletries.
Jenny Wren sits in its own secluded spot within six acres of land dedicated to the retreat. You're welcome to explore, meet and feed the goats, chickens and ducks and generally make yourself at home. They provide a wood-fired cookery school and offer cookery workshops, pop-up meals and occasional crafting workshops, with a discount for guests. If you'd like to be included just enquire when booking.
There's a wonderful pub nearby called The Rattery Church House Inn, one of the oldest in Devon which is a must after a day of exploring. You'll be close to Totnes, which is full of independent shops and has a lovely quirky vibe. Dartington Hall is close by with a rich cultural history and fabulous gardens. And if you fancy a paddle the beach is about a 25 minute drive away.
In the evening, light up the fire pit and the Ozpig stove, cook some sausages, open some local cider and settle into nature. There's a rather special hot tub a short stroll away where you can soak in the warm water beneath the night sky whilst counting the stars above.
