This charming village house in Andalucia offers groups of up to eight guests a tranquil stay on a quiet cul-de-sac overlooking a river. With a hammock for lazy snoozes, an outdoor cinema for movie nights and a plunge pool for a cooling dip, this lovely retreat has lots to offer.
Once you enter, the large hallway has old patterned floor tiles and is lined with books providing you and your loved ones with a homely feel from the off. Gather together in the double-height living room with its cosy wood-burner and great big, comfy sofas. Or, if the weather’s warm, make your way outside to the alfresco seating area that sits on the covered terrace. This is a lovely place to socialise in the shade when the sun is beating down outside.
Also there is a large dining area, which opens up to create outside dining in summer, or closes down with the sliding glass doors to create a cosy eating area with a stunning view of the river and the boats sailing by.
Off the dining room there are a couple of stairways. Take one and you’ll arrive on the fantastic sunbathing terrace where you can catch some rays whilst enjoying a good book. Or, take the other and end up at the garden, with its private plunge pool and decking terrace.
When it comes to whipping up a feast, the spacious kitchen is a chef’s dream, fully equipped with a large fridge, microwave, gas oven and hob – plus fun extras like a juicer and an ice cream machine for those indulgent treats! With ample counter space and plenty of storage, it’s perfect for cooking up a storm. Just off to the side, a utility area that has a washing machine and a handy freezer, making longer stays even more convenient.
Just off the hallway, you’ll find a charming double bedroom, with the family bathroom conveniently opposite. Follow the corridor and a few steps to reach two more bedrooms: one with a sumptuous super-king bed with an ensuite shower room, and another with a king size bed with an ensuite and direct access to the patio and garden, where an outdoor shower awaits. The fourth bedroom is an elegant retreat with a super-king bed, overlooking the lower terrace, complete with its own ensuite.
True to village tradition, the garden and field – dotted with fig, orange and olive trees – lies a scenic stroll outside the village. Follow the charming path along the river, passing by the lush fincas and gardens of neighbouring homes.
After a peaceful 40-minute walk, you’ll reach your own slice of riverside paradise. Nestled right on the riverbank with a quaint finca house, it’s the perfect spot for a hammock siesta or a lazy picnic. Verdant through most of the year, the landscape turns a golden brown during the dry summer months, giving it a uniquely rustic charm.
Sanlúcar de Guadiana, in Huelva, Andalucia, is a charming riverside village that sits on the banks of the Guadiana River, marking the border between Spain and Portugal. Known for its whitewashed houses, winding cobbled streets and scenic views, Sanlúcar offers a peaceful escape. The area is surrounded by rolling hills and lush olive groves, with outdoor adventures like hiking, river kayaking and zip lining across the Guadiana to Portugal. Rich in history and Andalusian culture, it’s a perfect retreat for nature lovers.

Leave a reviewWe stayed in Casa verde for a long weekend and what a wonderful place. The villa is beautiful, very well equipped, spacious and full of special individual touches (loved outdoor shower) the views are stunning and plenty of space to lounge and enjoy the warm November heat. The village is lovely, lots of places to sit out and watch the world go by and take in the atmosphere. There are lots of lovely walks, great nature and it was great fun to go out on the river in Casa’s dinghy. We enjoyed a fantastic time over on the Portuguese side of the river making the most of the sun hanging out at the beach bar (great pina colada’s). We will certainly be returning for hopefully a longer visits to Casa verde very very soon!
