Woodland Retreat holds a wonderful location in the popular village of Ahakista within beautiful West Cork. Two characterful pubs and the coastline are reachable within walking distance while the town of Bantry is just a twenty-minute car journey away and boasts a variety of helpful amenities, including shops and restaurants. This rugged coastline is perfect for those wishing to explore the great outdoors, either on foot, by bike or even by boat.
The eco-friendly home features contemporary interiors throughout and can comfortably accommodate up to eleven guests across its five beautifully-appointed bedrooms. Woodland Retreat makes an ideal setting for a family reunion or special getaway with plenty of room for the whole group to socialise, the living accommodation is spacious, comprising of a sitting room, dining room and a fully-equipped kitchen. The first of the bedrooms, a king-size double, and an adjacent shower room are set on the ground floor, making Woodland Retreat a good option for those who struggle with lots of stairs. Upstairs, on the first floor is a luxurious sauna, the ideal spot to warm up after a long coastline walk! Also on this level are the remaining four bedrooms, two king-size double rooms both boasting en-suite shower rooms. A family room with both a double bed and an additional single as well as a twin room, share the use of a family bathroom.
Outside, the home is set within five acres of grounds with private woodlands and a riverbank, ideal for long strolls. After exciting days spent exploring the surrounding area, the elevated terrace makes the perfect place to enjoy a delicious meal al fresco, afterwards, guests can indulge in a long relaxing soak in the hot tub.
Woodland Retreat is situated in the tranquil village of Ahakista, the sleepy seaside village is home to two pubs, Arundels by the Pier and The Tin Pub, both are within walking distance of the home. Every August bank holiday weekend, Ahakista Regatta draws a large number of visitors in to the area and features a quiz hosted by the TV personality and Author, Graham Norton. On the edge of Ahakista is a Memorial Garden dedicated to those who died in the Air India terrorist attack in 1985. The market town of Bantry, which is home to a variety of shops and restaurants, is conveniently located just a 20-minute drive away. Be sure to visit Bantry on Fridays for market day where you will find excellent local artisan food on sale!
The home is ideal for keen walkers, one of the most popular routes is the Sheep’s Head Way walk, a 93km trail which starts in Bantry and ends at Sheep’s Head Peninsula. Here you’ll find the Sheep’s Head lighthouse and stunning views northwards across Bantry bay – some lucky individuals may even spot dolphins or whales! For those short on time, it is possible to drive most of the route too.
