Set perched on the banks of the River Tees in the heart of the Durham Dales, these stylish eco-friendly lodges are perfect for a relaxing getaway surrounded by nature. There are three lodges, clad in larch, with meadow roofs that change with the seasons and help them blend in with the river bank. Wake up to the sounds of the birds and watch the river flow by as you sip your morning coffee on the private deck. Head out to explore the Durham Dales before relaxing in your hot tub or snuggling up in front of the wood-burner.
Each of the lodges is set on a slope that leads down to the river and features big floor-to-ceiling windows so you can sit and watch the water flow by in complete comfort. The large, open plan living space has been designed to help you make the most of the scenery with the wood-burner set in front of those windows and big comfy sofas in prime position. There’s also a kitchen with everything you’ll need to cook delicious meals and a welcome pack will start you off with the basics. There’s room for four around the dining table where you can enjoy the view while eating or you can take your meals out onto the deck, surrounded by nature.
Each lodge has two bedrooms with beds that can be set up as twin rooms or doubles, offering a bit of flexibility for groups. The bedrooms also have floor-to-ceiling windows so you can enjoy the scenery from the comfort of your pillow and sliding doors allow you to step straight out onto the deck. There’s also a contemporary bathroom and fluffy towels are provided. Each lodge also has a hot tub placed in a discreet spot out of view of your neighbours, where you can lie back and relax as the stars start to appear in the sky.
If you fancy getting out and doing a bit of exploring, there’s plenty to see and do in the area. Bring your walking boots and head out on one of the many trails that take you through Teesdale’s stunning landscapes. Stroll into Gainford village with its charming village green or visit the Bowes Museum just down the road. One of the best preserved medieval castles in the country, Raby Castle, is just 10 minutes away and the market town of Barnard Castle is also within easy reach. For a change of scene, the city of Durham is just 30 minutes away by car, where you can explore the historic cathedral, wander along the River Wear, or visit the shops and restaurants in the city centre.
