Palazzo Novara is a 17th century mansion which was completely renovated in 2012, combining luxury materials with modern technology. All architectural details have been maintained, restored and enhanced. The property features gorgeous, 17th century original architectural elements such as wood flooring, large fireplaces and coffered ceilings.

The entrance leads through a large gate into the courtyard and then to a little romantic garden. It is adorned with columns and protected by the walls to ensure maximum privacy for intimate lunches and dinners by candlelight. An alfresco dining table seats 8 people, and there is also a coffee table and chairs, 4 sun loungers.

On the ground floor you will find a study complete with computer and printer/scanner/copier, a fully equipped modern kitchen with dishwasher, fridge, freezer, oven, microwave and the all-important coffee machine. There is a dining room that seats 8 people, a guest bathroom with shower and the spa (more on that below). All rooms lead onto the garden.

The first floor is accessible either from the back entrance of the house or through the stairs connecting all the floors, where you will find a spacious living room with fireplace and coffered ceiling. There is a flat screen TV, DVD and CD player. There are two bedrooms on this floor - one with king and one with queen size bed. These rooms can be inter-connected if you wish.

On the second floor, a beautiful porch with vaulted ceiling connects two bedrooms and and music room with magnificent views of the lake, the Island of San Giulio and the Monte Rosa.

Every bedroom is en-suite and includes: hypo allergenic bedding, flat screen satellite TV, block out windows, iPod/iPhone/iPad audio system, towels, hairdryer and courtesy kit. There are also guest bathrooms on every floor.

Further Information

Lake Orta is one of the most famous of the Italian lakes. It is the perfect escape from the daily hustle and bustle of modern life, in touch with nature and history. There are options to enjoy sports and great food.

Along all the villages facing the lake, you can still feel the atmosphere of a past full of history, as demonstrated by several baroque buildings. There are also many examples of historic architecture, including numerous churches and monasteries.

While staying at Palazzo Novara, a trip to the Sacro Monte of Orta is a must. The Sacro monte of Orta is included on the UNESCO world heritage list and is one of the most remarkable sacred sites. Set up in a botanical garden on a hill overlooking the lake, it is dedicated to the life of Saint Francis. It has 21 chapels built between the 15th and the 17th centuries, richly decorated with frescoes and terracotta statues by famous artists. This astonishing site is a real jewel.

Wander around the picturesque town of Orta San Giulio. The town is a maze of fascinating little streets filled with restaurants, wine bars, art galleries, gourmet and local craft shops. Guests will enjoy magnificent sunsets from there, especially from the main square overlooking San Giulio island where visitors can go to by boat until late in the evening.

Vacciago, where Palazzo Novara is located, lies just above the picturesque town of Orta San Giulio and overlooks the lake and San Giulio island. It is an untouched baroque village full of fascinating 16th and 17th century buildings. It has been a holiday destination for noble families from Milan and Piedmont ever since.
Art lovers will find the Calderara Foundation an impressive place where several modern art pieces have been collected by the Calderara family over the years.
All services and amenities are within easy reach of Palazzo Novara. The Palazzo is in close proximity to golf courses, horseback-riding facilities, cycle paths and water sports. The area is renowned for its choice of restaurants, from rustic trattorias to high end culinary establishments to delight even the most refined of palates. Guests will find themselves in a region with one the richest culinary traditions in Italy, home of truffles and prestigious wines.

Surrounded by an authentic flower explosion everywhere in spring and early summer and the magical colours of the trees in autumn, the scenery is breathtaking. A 45 minute drive leads to the fashion and cultural hub city of Milan for a never-ending offering of cultural events and days of unforgettable shopping.
