Nestled in the landscape of the unspoiled Japanese Gozo Islands, Nordisk Village offers a truly unique holiday experience for those looking to take in the wonder of this archipelago without compromising on comfort. Offering accommodation in a number of high-end yurts on a site just seven minutes from an award winning beach, Nordisk Village is a serious treat, and unlike any other holiday experience you can imagine.
Nordisk Village is a collection of bell tents, seven of which can be shared by three people, and three of which are only suitable for couples. Each is finished internally to a high standard, benefitting from an unusual hybrid aesthetic of Scandinavian-Japanese fusion. With a minimalist decor and classic, understated furniture, there really is nowhere like Nordisk Village, ‘Asia’s first Scandinavian style glamping’. On the glampsite itself, a reception area has been converted from a former schoolhouse, where guests can find 24 hour support from the team of on-site staff. This remarkable building is also home to a three bedroom apartment, which can also be rented out.
Other amenities include shared bathroom facilities, a communal kitchen for guests to prepare their own meals, and an extraordinary restaurant run by the Taoflat Foundation, an organisation which specialises in preparing meals using the island’s local seasonal produce and seafood. Guests can choose between a tasting menu making use of the island’s own ingredients and a self-cooked barbecue option.
The island itself is an unknown paradise off the coast of Japan, set in a sapphire sea, with a quintessentially Japanese landscape. The closest beach is a short stroll away, and has been recognised in both Japan’s Nagisa 100 Selections and Japan’s Beach Baths 88 Selections. The seven minute walk to Tao Beach is particularly rewarding at sunrise.
Nordisk Village offers guests a number of events and activities to take part in right on the island and surrounding area. In addition to sporty and outdoors pursuits, including horse riding, paddle boarding, fishing and scuba diving, there a number of more sedate and culturally enlivening experiences, from a guided flight around the archipelago to a course in traditional kitemaking or stained glass window production. Tours of the region’s Christian churches, several of which have been accorded world heritage status, are strongly recommended.
