If you’re looking for a rustic and authentic retreat in a cosy home in Central Bulgaria, then Karashka might just be the place for you. Built in 1921, this home has been lovingly restored, making use of natural stone, clay and wood, to create a space that offers bucketloads of charm. Situated close to the Balkan Mountains, this marvellous home sits amidst rolling hills, craggy valleys and picturesque forests. This makes it an ideal retreat for lovers of the great outdoors, who want to strike out and explore this scenic part of Bulgaria.
Guests can socialise in the cosy lounge with its big L-shaped sofa and picture windows nicely framing the view. Prepare meals in the quaint kitchen that harks back to a bygone era, and enjoy hearty feasts in the wonderful dining room that features old stone walls and a huge working fireplace to ensure you stay toasty and warm all year round.
When night falls, the home has three bedrooms and a bathroom on the upper floor, which sleep up to five people. Then, there’s a separate studio space for two in the barn, which means that in total Karashka can sleep up to seven guests.
Stepping outside, you can enjoy an evening tipple as you gaze at the view and watch the sun set with a drink in hand. There’s a firepit out here too, so you can throw some logs on the flames and stay toasty and warm as the stars come out above.
Nestled in the tranquil village of Selishte, near the charming town of Apriltsi in central Bulgaria, this hillside retreat offers the perfect balance of adventure and relaxation. Perched at 500m altitude on a southern slope, the house is enveloped by lush forests and boasts sweeping views of the majestic Stara Planina peaks, including Botev, Kademlya and Maragidik.
If you're craving adventure, the iconic Central Balkan National Park - one of Europe's largest and most treasured protected areas - is right on your doorstep, inviting you to explore its breathtaking trails and natural wonders. For those seeking serenity, the peaceful rural setting of Selishte, with its handful of charming homes and untamed beauty, promises a private and rejuvenating escape.
Though the narrow, winding road from Sevlievo to Apriltsi adds a touch of thrill to your journey, it’s well worth it for the serene escape that awaits. Whether you're here to hike, explore or simply unwind amidst nature, this hidden gem in the heart of Bulgaria delivers it all.
