As the name suggests, Honeymoon Gatehouse is the perfect place for a romantic break. Set in the beautiful and secluded grounds of a private chateau and surrounded by the scenery of the Dordogne, this could be the fairytale break you’ve been searching for.
Guests approach the gatehouse through an avenue of trees and are greeted by the gorgeous golden stone, timber framed building. Honeymoon Gatehouse stands proud, with traditional gates opening to welcome you in to your little slice of paradise. Once through the gates guests will discover the ornamental lake which the house overlooks and the private deck, which will be so perfect for an al fresco petit déjeuner whilst watching the swans and geese glide across the lake.
The interior of the house is decorated to an extremely high standard. Downstairs there is a cosy sitting room with plush sofas and an inglenook fire, which is sure to keep the room toasty in the colder months. The kitchen is distinctly French with its stylishly muted colour scheme and country inspired fixtures and fittings.
Heading to the first floor, where the cosy but regal snug offers a wonderful space to relax and unwind in front of the plasma TV, or chill with a book from the library. On this floor you’ll also find a luxurious bedroom, beautifully decorated with Manuel Canovas wall paper and very chic furniture. This bedroom is accompanied by one of the most glamorous bathrooms we’ve come across.
Climbing on up to the third floor, where you are met by the awe-inspiring master bedroom. Ethereal pale grey beams scale the heights of the ceilings, enclosing, in the centre of the room, a stunning four poster bed, which is swathed in pretty white curtains with intricate carvings detailing its head and footboards. A truly amazing room which completes this charming little house.
Once you’ve explored the stunning grounds which surround the gatehouse, you will probably want to discover the charms of the Dordogne. An excellent place to start is by visiting some the area’s Les Plus Beaux (villages which have been named the most beautiful in France) Carennac hosts a collection of pretty Renaissance houses and an eleventh century priory nestled on the banks of the river Dordogne. At Turenne pretty village houses lead up to an eleventh century castle and the entire village benefits from magnificent panoramic views. Collonges la Rouge boasts impressive red buildings, built from distinctive red sandstone and makes for some amazing photographs when contrasted against the green hillsides that surround it. Swimming in a lake or a river is a unique experience and the Dordogne area is great for safe, wild swimming, with many lakes and river beaches open to the public to swim or kayak in, and many of them have life guards. Check out morning and night markets, which are held on different nights of the week in various villages, for local produce and crafts.
