Each barrel is compact but perfectly formed, with airy high ceilings and a spacious feel. They come with a comfortable double bed, little living area, kitchenette and neat en-suite bathroom with shower and WC. From the windows are far-reaching views across the fields. They're located right in the middle of the vineyard, where staff work during the day, but which you have all to yourself in the evening and at night.

Beyond the vineyard gates you'll find miles of the stunning countryside of south western France to explore. Located in the Bordeaux region of Northern Aquitaine, Chateau Bonhoste makes a perfect base for long days out among the rolling fields of grape vines and sleepy country villages, with a picnic of local cheese and fresh bread for a lazy lunch in a shady spot. A few miles away is the beautiful Medieval village of St Emilion, filled with ancient churches, miles of historic catacombs, little cafes and excellent bistros, and winding streets paved with cobblestones from England, shipped over to France as ballast on English ships and replaced on the return journey with barrels of wine. The vibrant regional city of Bordeaux is only an hour's drive away, offering amazing food markets, great shopping, restaurants and of course truly world-class wine.
