Church Cottage is homely with an understated style and lots of character. Spacious, light and welcoming, it would be a great choice for a family of up to eight or a group of friends who enjoy nature walks, country pubs, historic sites and cosy nights by the wood burner.
The long bright kitchen shows off the property's history with its high ceiling and exposed beams. It's very much a farmhouse kitchen in style, decorated in soothing creams and greens with an Aga keeping the space warm. You'll find all the modern appliances you could need to prepare delicious meals which you can share at the eight seater dining table. Large patio doors at one end open on to a secluded courtyard where you can enjoy an alfresco breakfast in the sunshine during the warmer months. It's the perfect place to gather together as a group, unpack the shopping and pop on the kettle.
There's a snug directly next to the kitchen which is very cosy with a sofa, armchair and toasty wood burner where you can enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail on chillier evenings as you smell the delicious cooking through the large connecting doorway.
A second larger living room is equally comfortable with another wood burner and two sofas. There are lots of tasteful details and ornaments and you'll find a games cupboard in here should you fancy an evening of Monopoly with the burner crackling away in the background. Both living areas have flat screen TV's so that the kids or teenagers can chill and watch their own films in one room whilst you relax with some wine and a good thriller next door. And if there are no kids then the snug is a great place to escape to with a good book!
When everyone is ready for bed there are four luxurious king size bedrooms to choose from. All are beautifully decorated with exposed beams, pretty floral designs and extremely comfortable beds made up with crisp linens, warm duvets, patterned cushions and throws to create a warm elegant space.
All of the ensuite facilities have powerful walk-in showers to invigorate you in the morning, with one boasting a roll-top bath for long lazy soaks. The perfect blend of modern luxury with period charm and the hosts have also provided underfloor heating and electric towel rails to keep feet and towels warm and happy.
In the morning you can enjoy a long hot shower before heading down to meet everyone for breakfast in the bright farm style kitchen. If the weather is good why not open the patio doors and enjoy that first coffee and the table in the courtyard as you make your plans for the day?
Baslow provides an excellent base from which to enjoy everything the Derbyshire Peak District has to offer. The town itself has plenty of independent shops and art galleries, and you might like to pop into Sweet Gene's and stock up on traditional sweets to munch on during a movie night. You'll find a range of pubs, a good cafe and if you fancy some fine dining locally you can book a table at Baslow Hall.
Slightly further afield the Peak District has much that makes it famous to visitors. Spend a day exploring local market towns like Bakewell (yes, the tarts!) and Buxton. Enjoy an abundance of cycling and walking routes through which you can visit the pretty limestone villages. Take a one-and-a-half mile walk along the river from the cottage and you'll find the glorious Chatsworth House. It's a fantastic day out for all the family with the beautiful house to wander around, stunning grounds, a farm and play area for kids, waterfalls, lakes and a tearoom. On the way home you might like to stop off at The Devonshire Arm for a pint by the fire.
