The doors of Casa Bonay first opened in 1869, and wherever possible the original features of this home come hotel have been lovingly restored. Look out for the hydraulic tiled floors, high ceilings and original sliding doors.
Rooms are divided into five different categories, depending on what you’re looking for. But whatever you choose you won’t go without, with all rooms boasting plenty of natural light and stylish, thoughtful design that blends the traditional feel of the building with modern comforts. In the bathrooms you’ll find Las Lilas toiletries waiting for you and on the beds soft blankets from Texidors. There’s Wi-Fi throughout, plus air-conditioning, and fans provided should you prefer this. All rooms also feature a mini-bar with local drinks and snacks, a Smart TV and selected magazines, and most rooms also enticing you into activity with a yoga kit.
For the most luxurious option go for a ‘Courtyard Large Terrace’ room, situated on the main floor and featuring a private terrace with an outdoor shower, hammocks for snoozing on and plenty of direct sunlight. Inside, rooms have high ceilings and floors with original, restored mosaics. Or, for views of the street life of the Gran Via below, go for ‘Gran Via Large’, where you’ll find tall ceilings, original mosaic floors and on the top level the floors are all terracotta. All of these rooms include a sofa, which can be converted into a bed to accommodate a third person, and some even feature a balcony.
The Libertine aims to keep you well fed and watered. Marcos from Satan’s Coffee Corner serves breakfast every day, and then from 12pm the restaurant opens offering soul food from around the world. High quality teas are on offer throughout the day, as well as freshly made juices, and later on remember to stop by for an elegant cocktail. The rooftop also soon to open, offering you views out over the city.
Casa Bonay is located in the middle of the Eixample Dret, one of the most iconic neighbourhoods of the city, and the preferred choice for many people visiting the city. This is a place that is shut off from traffic and so offers you plenty of opportunities to sit, eat and drink outside. The popular Passeig de Gracia Street, with plenty of shops and restaurants, is only 750 yards away. A 20-minute walk will take you to Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia, and Barceloneta Beach is only 4 metro stops away. This area, the Gothic Quarter, with its narrow streets and peaceful squares, is also the best refuge you will find in the centre from the busyness of this infamous city.
