Luxury and personality from hipster hotel chain.

The laidback London chain’s first international venture hits the mark with this landmark hotel.
Formed from five canal houses, this impressive building was once home to Amsterdam’s Mayor, a mind-boggling thought when you consider that it now houses 111 bedrooms across five floors, a restaurant, coffee and cocktail den, lobby bar and a meeting and events space on the roof. Indeed, the building is so vast that it borders canals on both sides.
Thankfully in carving the building into a hotel, the Hoxton has managed to keep and restore some original features including fireplaces and ornate ceilings, which injects some real character.
Rooms cater to all budgets, from the aptly named single/twin ‘Shoebox’ to the large ‘Concept’ suites, so you’re sure to find something that works. Most rooms have a canal view and all have awesome double showers.
Lotti’s restaurant, run in partnership with Soho House & Co, is a mix of plush sofas, wooden tables and white, airy walls. The food is Italian with a mix of Dutch – sounds weird but it’s great. Hoxtown, the Hoxton’s showcase of local music and art, takes over the Apartment every month.
With all that going on you might not feel the need to leave the hotel but with such a central location on Herengracht you really should. You’re walking distance to pretty much everything including the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum but you really should try to navigate by tram at least once (although perhaps not straight after visiting one of the city’s famous coffee shops).
