Montenegro is a little country with a lot to say. It’s a beguiling area with a contrasting and unusual landscape. Yes, you’ll find pristine beaches and brilliant bold sea, cosy coves and Greek tavernas, but you’ll also be able to take in the hearty mountainous regions and jagged wilderness that slightly defies modernity. A friendly culture, the locals will make you feel right at home with their kindness and hospitality. This is a culture of gentleness, of slow speed, of drinking up and savouring life. Embrace the gift that is Montenegro.
Your little hideaway is on Sveti Stefan, which is a small islet and resort, not far from Budva. It is very much like exploring an idyllic childhood paradise. A fantastical place, it has to be seen to be believed. You’re connected to the mainland by a slim string of golden beach and there is much to do nearby, including a visit to Milocer Park.
You can take a tour to explore some of Montenegrin’s cultural gems, including Cetinje and Njegusi as well as the picture-perfect Bay of Kotor.
The coast is a great place to spend time, but if you move in-land, you’ll also find there’s much to explore. Despite its small size, Montenegro is a geographically diverse land, and you can pick and choose what you’d like to see of it. It’s history of military invasion and religion mean that it houses a large number of monasteries which are well worth a visit. The famous Skadar Lake is a wonderful sight.
Montenegro is gaining in popularity, but there are still many chances to find quiet and peace. Food is a famous feature and there are a huge number of restaurants to enjoy, including Restora Rivijera, Jadran, Zeleni Gaj, Hajde for any vegetarians and Resto Bar Taraca for vegan options.
Further afield, you may wish to explore Budva with its many beaches, old town, and Roman-era ruins. Sveti Nikola island is a gorgeous sight, and the Budva Citadel is a great trip. There are lots of picturesque things to see, including the Budva dancing girl.
With a car to hand, you can drive to the mountainous region of Durmitor, visit the Ostrog Monastery, our lady of the rocks, a charming artificial island with a church. There are so many beautiful things to see and do here, all you need to do is decide what you want to do and go for it.
