Rather than maintaining manicured lawns, the owners of this gorgeous site have encouraged nature to thrive and the tents and shepherds huts sit in semi-wilderness on Rutland Water with stunning views of the reservoir. The site is perfect for couples or friends wanting some down time surrounded by nature and water. The Hide is also perfect for weddings and events and the owners would be happy to discuss that with you. The accommodation on offer is high end and beautifully presented whilst still managing to retain the rustic charm of the great outdoors. Each of the accommodation options has a big cosy bed and lots of lovely touches to help you enjoy your stay.
If you stay in one of the fabulous bell tents you'll be perched high in the cider apple orchard with amazing views, your own balcony, a hammock and your own private bathroom which is just a short walk away. There is even power inside the tent for lighting, charging phones and laptops.
If you choose a shepherds hut you'll have your own outdoor seating area set amongst grape vines with fabulous views of Rutland Water. You will have the benefit of running water, a hot shower and flushing toilet. The huts all have power for lighting and charging points as well as a wood burning stove for chilly evenings.
All of the guests are provided with a fire pit/BBQ, gas rings, tables and chairs, cutlery and tea/coffee making facilities. It's the perfect place to enjoy the surroundings and lounge around the fire pit with sausages sizzling and a cold beer. The place is gloriously quiet in the evenings and the owners discourage amplified music and large gatherings. This is a special place to chill out and relax.
As well as the spectacular water views you'll be just a stone's throw from the main cycle path, offering you a great way to explore the area. There are 23 miles of mostly traffic-free cycling around Rutland Water and its peninsular and there's a shorter family trail (8 miles) that runs from Normanton to Whitwell. A choice of bikes are available to hire at Normanton and Whitwell from mountain bikes to hybrid and fully electric bikes. If you have your own bikes you can pick up the cycle path in either direction right outside the gate of The Hide.
There are plenty of picturesque places to stop and take a break or have some lunch. Right by Normanton Church is great and BBQs are permitted in most places as long as you are responsible. There's a golf club nearby and you'll be just a couple of miles from the sailing club. There are many great country pubs in the area as well as the nearby towns of Stamford, Uppingham and Oakham. And after a day of adventuring you can head back to your cosy tent or hut, light the fire pit and relax in glorious wilderness and beauty.
