The Dolomites Panorama House was designed by Stefan Hitthaler and is as much a piece of minimalist art as it is a comfortable and stylish holiday home. It would make a memorable retreat for two couples of a small family seeking the tranquility of nature and all of the activities the region offers including skiing, swimming, hiking and sightseeing.
The building rises out of the coniferous forest 1314 metres above sea level providing panoramic views of the South Tyrolean landscape. The interior walls are made up of untreated spruce wood creating a warm atmosphere with plenty of light.
The ground floor is an open plan kitchen and living area with a stylish dining table and seating beneath a single elegant lampshade. Everything feels spacious, quiet and soothing. The kitchen is sleek and contrasts the rest of the room with its dark wood fittings. Everything is discreetly tucked away and you'll find all you could possibly need including a Nespresso machine, Bialetti cooker, washing machine and the much loved raclette for those post ski cheese feasts.
A comfortable large sofa sits near the wood burner providing a lovely place to rest with a book and you could spend hours sitting out on the large cantilevered terrace with a glass of wine enjoying the stunning views from the Puster Valley to the mighty mountain peaks of the Dolomites.
Wooden stairs lead up to the first floor where you'll find the two simple and very elegant minimalist bedrooms. Both have very comfortable beds made up with quality linens, bedside tables suspended from the walls and warm bedside lamps. There is another balcony on this level from which you can see the views from a different vantage with the forest framed beautifully.
This floor is also home to a shared bathroom with a large walk-in shower and as with the rest of the house it is simple and stylish with elegant choices made at every turn.
The third and final floor introduces a surprising splash of colour with the red metal girders above and a multi-coloured rug. Enjoy more spectacular views through the skylight and make use of this as an extra bedroom for guests or children with the use of the comfortable sofa which opens into an additional double bed.
The lower floor with an additional entrance provides a fully equipped second bathroom with underfloor heating and a large storage room with an additional fridge and freezer and a ski boot dryer.
The place is perfect for a holiday at any time of year. Offering excursions, rafting, mountain biking and climbing tours in the summer and you'll find high pastures and glorious lakes in which to swim. In winter there are endless cross-country ski trails to enjoy as well as the downhill slopes at Kronplatz (Plan de Corones) and Alta Badia. Indulge in the excellent wines and cheeses, visit Taufers Castle or head into Bruneck only 15 minutes away where you'll find a selection of supermarkets and shops. St Lorenzen has a highly recommended little bakery serving delicious bread and also has a well-stocked supermarket.
