Just a short water-taxi ride from the capital, Valletta, Indulgence Divine is the most decadent introduction to Malta imaginable. A 16th-century townhouse perfect for two, it’s the place for a truly special romantic break – seductive, sensual and surrounded by intriguing history.
Indulgence Divine gives you the boutique hotel feel coupled with the privacy and freedom of going self-contained. Situated just behind the Inquisitor’s Palace in the Collachio area of Vittoriosa, the house was once a merchant’s home, even incorporating a private chapel, which has now been repurposed as the luxurious bedroom. Featuring stone walls and arches, an Art Nouveau bed and Hieronymus Bosch works on the overhead canopy, it’s full of talking points.
A gorgeous en suite bathroom with double shower continues the indulgent theme, with more elegant design touches. Original artworks hang on the walls of the mezzanine-level living space, just up the spiral staircase. A fully equipped kitchen has all you need to cook in style, if you take a night off from discovering the numerous local restaurants – many boast great views as well as delicious food, including those lining the nearby marina, just ten minutes’ walk away.
The house has more imaginative spaces for you, in the form of the intimate dining room lit by a majestic turquoise Murano chandelier, and an equally appealing roof terrace for al fresco breakfasts, late-evening drinks and special moments to remember.
Brimming with intensity and rich colour, Indulgence Divine is just as enchanting as the island itself. Formerly (and sometimes still) known as Birgu, Vittoriosa is a grown-up destination with no shortage of cafés and wine bars, a grand harbour and ancient old town. October sees the town lit by candles during the atmospheric BirguFest, while late April heralds the arrival of Malta’s International Fireworks Festival.
The town’s proximity to Valletta offers you the chance to explore this beautiful waterfront capital with ease. World-class arts and music festivals are a regular occurrence, and history is everywhere – architecture lovers will find much to appreciate in Valletta’s churches, palaces and vibrant piazzas.
Multiple influences shape Maltese cuisine as a result of the island’s eventful history, and when you’re done dining, there are some beautiful gardens and a maze of little streets to explore, before returning by bus or boat to Indulgence Divine – a place that truly lives up to its name.

Leave a reviewAfter two postponed bookings due to Covid we were looking forward to visiting Malta and ID. Communication with Aldo was great throughout - helpful and informative. The accommodation is unique and we enjoyed being there. The roof terrace is a bonus for accommodation in the old quarter. The house - on four floors - was clean, well equipped and spacious for two people. Birgu is a great location, close to local bus stops and the 10 minute ferry hop to Valetta for day visits. Plenty of interesting places to visit on the door step (the Inquisitor's Palace and Fort St Angelo) as well as a good assortment of restaurants. Recommended.

This was our second stay at ID which speaks for itself! The house is comfortable and stylishly furnished, with everything you could need and the wonderful host, Aldo, is readily available to answer any questions. The location is perfect too - in a beautiful, historic part of Malta very convenient for, but not in, the capital Valletta. Thoroughly recommend.

The aptly named Indulgence Divine is perfectly located in the quiet but beautiful area of Birgu/Vittoriosa. Nearby are some nice restaurants and a waterfront marina to sit, relax and enjoy a nice drink. Water taxis and the ferry allow you to travel to nearby Valetta in 15 minutes at your leisure. The house has all the ameneties you would expect from a luxury rental, large shower comfortably allowing two people, modern air conditioning units, comfortable lounge area and the kitchen has all utensils and crockery you may need. There is interesting artwork which adorns the walls and the overall design of the house is really great and very different to the usual holiday apartment. The building itself is full of history and has been restored to be clean and modern. There are lots of small touches which add to the experience such as the information booklet which goes in detail about the history of the house, how to use all the facilities and other helpful information. Aldo, the owner, was very helpful with all our queries and communicated rapidly and clearly from when we first booked the reservation, until our last day staying there. I can see that Indulgence Divine is more than just a side income for him, as he seems to care a lot about the house, Malta and our experience staying there. I would definitely recommend Indulgence Divine to anyone looking to stay in Malta at a high quality apartment, in a good location, with hassle free reservation.

We've just returned from a super weekend in Malta - what a stunning place to stay! Indulgence Divine was the icing on the cake and manages to seamless blend history with modernity making it a wonderfully comfortable base from which to explore the delights of Valletta. Situated in medieval Birgu - Valletta, is a short hop on a riverboat, with its wonderful architecture and elegant restaurants. We decided to hire a car to explore more of the island which I would recommend. The house itself is perfect - super stylish with amazing attention to detail -the double shower after a long day out was particularly fabulous. There are QR codes dotted around the house which you can download onto your smartphone and a direct line to the owner Aldo should you need to contact him. Aldo really has thought of everything, ID is definitely a very cool place to stay.

In some ways it was a little difficult to picture what it would be to see Indulgence Divine in real life, the photos and clear concise information provided by the owner Aldo still cannot prepare you for this awesome experience. Aldo supplies lots of practical help, suggestions and a very caring and considerate attitude. His home has been not only beautifully renovated but very, very carefully thought out in the process to not only provide great comfort but also to show respect and love for this property's history. The first floor accommodation is your well fitted kitchen leading onto the open dining and bedroom area (very comfy bed and pillows) with the bathroom. Don't forget to look through the large surprising key hole and see where this will lead you!....this space is all about history then what a surprise up the spiral staircase...a light filled almost Manhattan style loft space with large leather sofa and tv, then up just a few more steps and you have the perfect roof top dining and sun terrace. So a great combination of history melded perfectly with modern living. A much appreciated welcome package was left for us containing items such as wine, cheese, bread, biscuits, jam etc.The house was so clean and left immaculate by Josephine who we were privileged to meet. Not only were we thrilled with choosing ID but with the decision to stay in Birgu rather than other areas of Malta. Valletta is extremely busy but very easy to get to using the ferry which takes just a few minutes walk from ID and makes for a perfect commute or even to Senglea. The surrounding area of Birgu is fascinating with restaurants (excellent butcher shop!) and lots to discover in the narrow historic lanes. Staying at ID was indeed a unique and amazing experience so don't hesitate to contact charming Aldo to appreciate this accommodation which even though is incredible still feels like a very comfortable home.

Absolutely beautiful place to stay. Great facilities - including a double shower - and unobtrusive instructions make using them a breeze. The perfect place to make a fabulous base. The area is full of history and although tourists visit on guided tours, it's a friendly residential area. Your friends will hate you :)
