Savour the glorious vistas of the Bay of Naples and the beach adjacent to the famous Palazzo Donn'Anna from this home. Enjoy an alfresco lunch surrounded by pretty flowers on the balcony as you gaze out to sea. There's a splendid master suite with sofa and desk – take a seat and read a book, we don't think you'll get much reading done here, mind, with views like this. The sunny yellow living room is cheery even if the weather is cloudy and enjoys more of that incredible seascape.
This home is situated in Posillipo, an affluent residential area known for its seafood restaurants and chic cocktail bars. Spend the day on the golden sands of Spiaggia delle Monache, a three-minute stroll from this apartment. History lovers can head to Pausilypon Archaeological Park, with its Roman villa and amphitheatre, a thirty-minute drive away. Or the city of Naples is under a twenty-minute ride, where you'll find the Duomo di San Gennaro, filled with beautiful frescoes.
Compared to imperious Rome or stylish Milan, Napoli has tended to be overlooked when tourists considered which Italian cities to visit. However, it’s fair to say that in the past decade or so, its unfairly maligned reputation has started to shift and visitor numbers have steadily grown, helped by Elena Ferrante’s stirring Neapolitan novels that use the scenic location as a backdrop.
Like many a port city, its history can kindly be described as tumultuous — it’s passed through the hands of the Greeks, Romans, Byzantines and the kingdom of Aragon over the course of its two-millennia history — so the range of architecture on display is impressive for its diversity. The huge number of churches, squares and castles — especially in the historic centre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site — make it a great place in which to wander about and when you inevitably work up an appetite, you couldn’t be in a better place. It’s no coincidence that the word Neapolitan is used as a culinary prefix so often — think pizzas, ice cream and ragù— and the much-imitated local cuisine is renowned for its flavoursome decadence.
