Stylish surf-inspired beach house with a hot tub a stone’s throw from the sea at Camber Sands.
You’ll find Lark Rise a stone’s throw from the water and golden dunes of the famous Camber Sands on the coast of East Sussex. This architect-designed house is inspired by the surf cultures of Long Island and Montauk in the USA, creating a relaxed, beachy vibe. The timber-clad house features a big open-plan living area that opens up onto a spacious garden, perfect for indoor-outdoor living. It’ll make you want to put your wetsuit on and head straight down to the waves or take the dog for a long walk along the miles of sandy beach. Back at the house, recover with a relaxing dip in the hot tub before rustling up a late lunch on the BBQ.
Step into the huge open-plan living and kitchen area and you’ll find the space has been handcrafted using timber complemented by oxidised tin. High, vaulted ceilings and bi-fold doors out onto the garden make the space feel light and airy. To one side, you’ll find a fully equipped, contemporary kitchen and to the other, a comfy L-shaped sofa in front of a 55” smart TV. There are two dining tables, one indoors and one outdoors, so on sunny days you can bring your meals outside or cook on the BBQ.
You’ll find two of the bedrooms in the main house and the third in the Garden Room, an independent cabin located at the other end of the garden. There are two double bedrooms in the main house, one with an ensuite and the other with access to a family shower room. The Garden Room has room for two more guests, has its own bathroom and is the perfect spot for a movie night. Back in the main house, a spiral staircase leads up to a cosy mezzanine area which makes a great hideout for the kids.
The enclosed garden is a real sun trap with plenty of furniture for relaxing outdoors on warm days. Get stuck into a game of table tennis while dinner sizzles away on the BBQ or sit back and relax in the hot tub. There’s also a handy garden shower so you can rinse off any sandy wetsuits and feet when you get back from the beach.
There’s plenty to do in the area with three miles of sandy beach on your doorstep and the historic town of Rye nearby. Have a go at watersports like windsurfing or relax on the beach with a book if you prefer to take things at a more leisurely pace. Go for long walks exploring the sand dunes or the Rye Harbour Nature Reserve with its wide array of flora and fauna. To learn a bit about the history of the area, wander through the cobbled medieval streets of Rye and get panoramic views from the castle. Venture a little further along the coast and you’ll reach the unique shingle beach and National Nature Reserve of Dungeness which is both a fascinating and otherworldly landscape.
