Cowley Manor is a country house hotel with a difference. Surrounded by 55 acres of parkland, woods and meadows, this hidden gem of the Cotswolds features award-winning contemporary design and architecture. The hotel's emphasis is on comfort, informal service and "very few rules". This all combines to make Cowley Manor a personal favourite bolthole of the CoolStays team and the ideal place to relax, unwind and indulge in the heart of the British countryside.
The 30 rooms are split across the main house and the stable block - all wonderfully appointed and decorated in a contemporary funky feel. They are classed as "Good", "Better", "Great" and "Exceptional" depending on the size and unique features. Some have lake views, others have their own terrace, some are laid out over 2 or three floors with plenty of space to spread out and relax. All rooms have full amenities including LCD screen, DVD player, Bose iPod docking station, free Wi-Fi, Nespresso coffee machine, luxury bath products, generous sized bathrooms and well stocked mini bar. A full breakfast menu is complimentary. There can be only one "Best" room and that has a four poster bed, bathtub for 2 and private terrace with with gorgeous views over the lakes and countryside.
With such luxurious and spacious rooms (and room service to hand) you may not feel the need to venture beyond your door, but if you do there is a large sitting room overlooking the gardens with doors opening out onto the main terrace which extends along the length of the house and has glorious views of the gardens and beyond, making this the perfect place to relax, read, listen to the cool soundtrack or watch the world go by. A full day-time food and drinks menu can be served here until late. There is also a stylish billiards room, and a fantastic bar area to enjoy a cocktail before dinner.
The Restaurant at Cowley Manor is a grand oak panelled space with a super-high ceiling and more stunning views over the grounds, serving a modern British menu with a focus on local, seasonal, sustainably sourced food.
Their award-winning spa has been cleverly sunk into the grounds (with special dispensation from English Heritage) and has two spectacular pools: a 17m green slate-lined indoor pool and an elegant 15m outdoor pool, both heated all year round. In the summer months, the area adjacent to the outdoor pool completely transforms with sun loungers, a bar and full waiter service. There are also 4 treatment rooms, a gym, a steam room and sauna.
Cowley is the perfect place for that very special occasion or group party with their Garden Room providing a versatile space with views over the gardens and St Mary’s Church, casual seating, a dining table for up to 16 people and a terrace during the summer months. Its it a great space for wedding ceremonies or cocktail parties. If you're feeling particularly extravagant the whole hotel can be hired!
